Wellesley Police Youth Academy 2008 www.wellesleypdphoto.com 24 students that are from grades 6 to 8 spend a week at Wellesley Police learning about the job. Day 1: Tour of the station, police cruisers, and equipment explanation and practical.

Day 2: Field Trip to FBI Boston for an introduction to FBI Boston SWAT and a liar
detector demonstration. One cadet was actually hooked up to the machine and the
examiner was able to determine when she was lying. The afternoon was spent at Fun
and Games with laser tag and lunch.
Day 3: Field Trip to the Massachusetts State Police Marine Unit in Boston Harbor.
An extensive boat tour of Boston Harbor and Spectacle Island on Marine 41 and
Marine 42, including a quick spin underneath the Tobin Bridge. The afternoon was
spent at Morses Pond.
Day 4: MBTA Transit Police demonstrate bomb sniffing dogs, bomb disposal gear,
and a bomb disposal robot. METROLEC SWAT also demonstrated some of their
gear, including the Command Post thanks to Tim Gover. The afternoon was filled
with LIDAR/RADAR on Washington Street, car stops and arrests, as well as a
demonstration of Mazi, a Bloodhound.
Day 5: A day with the detectives, learning crime scene techniques, including foot wear
impressions and fingerprinting. Graduation! All graduation photos thanks to
